Default Recycle bin.

When files are deleted from a USB thumb drive, these don't appear in
the recycle bin. Is this normal?

Yes, normal. That's how it works.

"Be careful when working with USB sticks"

Print that on your Label Maker and affix to the stick :-)

Moving files on a USB stick, is going to use some amount
of Flash write cycles. That's why they likely made that
choice to immediately delete and just flip the bit
in the $MFT to make it happen. Rather than waste Flash life
by doing the usual intermediate steps.

Using your favorite "UnErase" program, you can bring them
back if you want. As long as you have not done a lot of
writes since.

Note that USB sticks come with RMB=0 and RMB=1, so
if someone writes in right now and says "hey, that's
not how my USB stick works", yes, it's possible for
the converse to happen. For the feature to work.

Maybe Uwes page has more info ? Look for "RMB".
