Windows Security messed up
I have been running WeatherScope for at least 15 years. For some strange
reason, all of a sudden Microsoft decides to quarantine the thing without even notifying me. I figured that would be the place to look, since apparently files were missing. Idiots. Deleting the files is one thing, but deleting them without even notifying the user? Because they think the user is too stupid to know what it's doing? Must have something to do with Microsoft trying to turn the PC into a smartphone. Idiots. |

If only a restore of Windows didn't take so long (from outside of Windows), a simple test will be easy... Do the restore, start the weather program without using scripting. See what happens. |

FWIW...
Of course that should have been "you must pay close attention to everything THE USER INTERFACE PART OF the OS is doing". |

We don't even know at this point, that WD did it. A real AV would likely have a log. But don't quote me on that. Making logs is *hard* :-) It takes a printf(). They don't teach printf() in CS. printf("Something happened\n"); setcolor(CheeryPink); Paul |

I went to the settings and reversed Windows' actions. That was easy. We don't even know at this point, that WD did it. That's what quarantined it. I'm just complaining, mainly about the lack of notice. The issue must be duplicated during the normal course of things here, anyway, so I will update the next time Windows is restored. It's in my TODO list that follows a Windows restore... "WeatherScope, see if Windows Security quarantines, then correct" Along with everything else in TODO, after it's done a fresh backup of Windows is made. That way the correction is archived. Thanks. -- A real AV would likely have a log. But don't quote me on that. Making logs is *hard* :-) It takes a printf(). Something that hasn't been a threat for six years and hasn't changed in the last six years is all of a sudden deemed a threat by Windows? Why? The only Internet it accesses is the US weather site. Unless that site is hacked, I doubt there is any risk to users. |

Windows Security messed up
Restored Windows. Paying close attention. Everything's fine now, no
signs of this failing to open or Skype unauthorized appearing on the taskbar. There were other times when WeatherScope had trouble opening for some strange reason. Maybe Microsoft Security changing its mind? Seems fishy. In fact it was quarantined this last time, I saw it. Weird. What sort of user action can cause Windows to act differently that way? After the Windows restore, just now, it was opened manually and then as usual via script, opened both times. Windows update has been turned off (paused), so the different behavior is not caused by an update. Nevermind for now. I wrote: I have been running WeatherScope for at least 15 years.
