I can try the other and see if its different. Robert The first step is reviewing the materials on hand, before deciding how to proceed. If the ZIP is already unpacked to a folder, you just use the file in the folder. If the ZIP isn't unpacked, use one of the techniques in the picture, to extract the entire folder for easy usage. Paul I'm opening the folder and right clicking on the file but the options given aren't the same as your example. It was similar to what we encountered in finding the driver. I never would have thought it would be under Network Setup. I'm just fumbling here not really knowing what I'm doing trying to follow your instructions but as I said its not giving me the same results when I right click as you can see from the screen shots. Even your page and setup looks totally different than mine does. That's why I say I must be doing something wrong. don't know if I'm in the same Explorer as you? I right click the start button to get to Windows Explorer, is that correct? Thanks, Robert |

All you needed to do is double-click the "Autoruns.exe" in the first picture. You should seriously consider going to Control Panels : Programs and Features and removing 7ZIP. I can see this is causing no end of misery. All that you really need, is one procedure for "Extracting" a ZIP to a folder, when you do a download. And File Explorer is plenty for the job. The poster "Char" doesn't like the 7ZIP integration into the desktop, but it doesn't bother me. I'm beginning to see Char's point, that maybe it's too complicated to keep track of. Microsoft shouldn't have put its "virtual folder" feature into Explorer. Web sites could have used SFX versions of ZIP files, which would end in EXE and would unpack when you double clicked them. This "extraction" nonsense if for the birds, that's for sure... Paul |

Your result by doing that, was supposed to look like this. In this example, I'm showing where the USB3MON is for my Renesas brand USB3. Yours will be Intel flavored, so the line will be *similar* but not exactly the same as mine. https://i.postimg.cc/RZzyhsft/autoruns.gif By unticking the box for the "USB3MON" flavor, the tray notification should stop running. Paul I showed you the one I chose and then the example you said you said would likely work so you could compare them and then ran it with the results at the end. Do I just right click Autoscans.exe and run as Administrator? http://i63.tinypic.com/w1w7yt.jpg Robert Run as administrator is fine. Paul I think I got it,. right under the pink area second entry USB3MON I un-ticked it. Then restarted the computer and the pop-up was gone. http://i67.tinypic.com/28su5bb.jpg Many thanks, Robert If you ever re-install that USB3 driver, that tick box will come back again. Autoruns isn't of much use against any sort of "persistent" pest, but in this case, you shouldn't have to go back there for months. At a guess. And it's a good thing it's near the top like it is, as scrolling through all the available tick boxes takes some time. Paul |

Why do they make this so difficult? At any rate the problem is resolved but you say it will come back? I never had this problem before? Anyways, thanks again for all your good help and taking the time to explain things. Robert |
