Default 4K YouTube to MP3 problem

Thanks. So youtube-dl itself _doesn't_ have an MP3 encoder (or
transcoder) inside, but the ubiquitous ffmpeg can be used with it,
fairly transparently once installed.

In the youtube-dl package, I see folders like:

extractor: Contains filenames consistent with known websites
downloader: rtsp.pyo, suggestive of protocol support
postprocessor: ffmpeg.pyo 20,575 bytes

There is no sign of a "libAV.dll" or similar.

There is no sign of "named protocol converters", like
privately implemented converters (a "codec pack").

Everything seems to be Python-related, that I can see.
And a bit too thin and scrawny for a multimedia circus.
But that's what FFMPEG excels at. FFMPEG comes
with "two kitchen sinks".

I would test, by asking youtube-dl to download something
and make the output .mp3, and see if it presents an
error message or gives instructions on how to install FFMPEG.

I usually run youtube-dl in a VM, when I do use it. It
doesn't happen to be loaded in my main OS. My main OS
is a bit too rickety for stuff like this :-) (I have a
problem right now, where large files are getting corrupted,
in particular .mrimg files. Generating .mrimg files with
a different OS on the *same* hardware, shows no problems.
"Scans" in the past, have revealed nothing.)

The separate package "youtube-dl-gui-0.4-win-portable.zip"
has a copy of ffmpeg in it. The compressed download is 36MB
or so, consistent with the size of a zeranoe FFMPEG build.

When I saw ffmpeg in the above, I was tempted to read no further, as I
tend to believe ffmpeg can do anything, given the right spells
(parameters).

I know nothing of Python, other than its existence.

Bit beyond my enthusiasm level. I'll continue doing what I do -
downloading a video, extracting the audio both as WAV and "original";
then if "original" turns out not to be mp3 but m4a as it usually is, I
discard the m4a and convert the WAV to mp3. OK, it's double conversion
so sub-optimal, but with my ears (and mainly for playing in the car),
it's adequate. (Besides, I like looking at the X-Y and waterfall in the
GoldWave I use for making the MP3.)

I still haven't played with VMs. (My most powerful PC is this fairly
elderly laptop - i3 [4 core?], 3G - which I suspect is a bit minimal
these days; besides, it's also my main PC, so I don't really want to
mess with it.)
