They specifically said they did not want to use the "Other..." option (which
also exists on macOS). They wanted something more direct.

When you've used it once, it's automatically added to the main list.

I'll be damned. Cool. Just tested it and found exactly what you said. Thanks.
One of those things I should have known but did not. But now I do!

One of the things I like is the integration and focus on usability.
But, again, to each their own.

You're spouting meaningless buzzwords. What do you mean by that?

Things such as the proxy icons which allow me to easily grab a file icon
by its open window,

Why the **** would you want to do that?

If I have a file open and I want to do ANYTHING I could do if I had the
icon showing in the file browser.

That's just weird. Why would you want to perform a file action on a window?
You're asking for confusion. A file is a file, a window is a program
displaying that file.

Say I want to drag the file to another program -- to email it or edit it
elsewhere or create an alias (shortcut) to it -- but I have the document
window open but not the file icon itself which is buried.

Ok.... that's a very odd thing to want to do. Why do Apple people love all
this dragging stuff? It's a computer, not a toy.

I want to do it for of use and efficiency.

or be able to find its path with a simple right
click from almost any document.

Windows does this.

Really? If I have, say, a WordPad document open, how can I easily find
the path to the file?

Did you forget where you opened it from? Never in my 38 years of computing
have I ever felt the need to do that. What you've got there is a gimmick.

You did not answer the question... but sure, I remember I opened it from the
"Open Recent" option. So what is its path? You CAN find it... but it is not
particularly quick.

You need a doctor to fix that not an OS.

If you don't know where the file is, then you're completely disorganised and
are probably attaching the wrong thing.

Or using someone else's computer, or have a bunch of old files.

I would be "stuck" doing a File Save As and then
looking to see where it points me to. And then if I wanted to open a
folder in the path I would have to move to it in that file dialog box
and right click and open it from there. Certainly doable (I do it!) but
a bit whacky.

If you know of a better way, where I can -- like with macOS -- just get
a direct path where I can jump to any folder in the heirarchy I would to
know it. Just opened WordPad just to see if I could find a simple
method. I do not see it.

I *do* see from the Search window it shows recent documents... and I
guess that is not so bad, but does not give quick access to anywhere on
the path and is not tied to the document window itself.

Or the ability to make my own services
to, say, look up words in the Urban Dictionary from almost any app --
with just right clicking on the word and picking the option (no need to
leave the app). Or PDF Services. Lots of examples.

Now you're just using it as a toy.

I do not do any programming if that is what you mean. As I said, I am
looking at it from an end-user perspective.

Within one program I've used "search" or "translate" when highlighting a
word
or phrase in a web browser. But I've never felt the need to do that across
programs.

You do not have the ability... with great power comes... um, the ability to
do
that. I think Spiderman said that first.

Even with Usenet it comes in handy -- someone posts a Message ID... I just
right click on it and select to open it at Howard Knight. Of course I could
copy, go to my browser, go to Howard Knight, paste, and then search... but
why
take that route when there is an easier one?

Message IDs are supposed to open within the usenet reader.

I can go back in threads or do a search for a message ID but not just a quick
click to get to it.

Here, a quick video showing how
easy it is... and something Gremlin has yet to show he can do:

And how I open them:

https://youtu.be/U-AO5evO2s0

What do you do when you want to find a post by Message ID?

I don't use Message IDs. I've never felt the need to. If I did on a regular
basis, I'd be using a different newsreader that supports them.

If you do not have the message that would not help (unless it can be
downloaded, but might be in a group you are not even subscribed to).

You can't argue about the cost, they're very expensive!

Yes and no. For comparable machines they are about the same, but you
have FAR less choice and no low end models.

Bull****. At my last place of work, which I converted almost entirely
to PCs, I was asked to buy a Mac for someone. I found an identically
specced Dell PC for half the price. He bought the Dell.

Check out almost any comparison made by PC mags / websites.

No, I prefer real world prices. I was given a Mac spec to buy, I found
an identical spec by Dell for half the price and offered it to him. He
agreed and asked me to buy two.

There might be examples of that -- but MOST comparisons do not find that
to be the case.

Then they're wrong. It's a well known fact that Apple, Dyson, and Mercedes
are overpriced.

Depends on how you look at it, but I tend to go with the evidence over
common-belief.

I go with 1st hand evidence over what others say. My work tried to move over
to Xerox colour photocopiers over inkjet because it was cheaper. According
to a survey. I knew better.

I look to my needs and tastes and go with what I think will serve me best in
the price range I find acceptable.

With that said, when I got my iMac it has features that come with it
even if I do not use them... so I could leave those out on a PC. It
really depends on how you look at it as to if Macs are more expensive.

It's easy. You pick a Mac to your liking and note down the price and specs.
Now go to a website where you can buy a custom PC and choose exactly the
same
CPU, graphics, monitor, etc as the Apple. The price will be half.

Comparing custom machines to pre-made are two different things.

Bull****. All PCs are customizable. And so are Macs, presumably you can
tell Apple to put a faster CPU in it?

You have SOME options... but try to get an iMac without a webcam... or without
WiFi... or without infrared (for a long time... now try to get one with it!).
Or with a low end monitor (though you can get a mini).

But even if
the Mac costs more for the same specs, they often work better at the same
specs (though it depends on what software is important to you).

They can't since the specs are the same so the processor does the same number
of instructions.

Depends on many factors other than just specs.

Did you notice that at no time has David even so much as tried to

Come to think of it, has David disputed anything I've written about
him, or myself for that matter since the snit show began?

Have you noticed that Snit and kumquat both completely ignore

to miss, isn't it?

Now, please do correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm almost certain
that's a very good example of a double standard, right?

I find it curious that they found each other.
To me that seems rather odd.

I can't say for David as I know nothing about his behavior but snit's
MO has always been to selectively respond to items that bolster his points
and ignore those that do not.
This is why he constantly quotes out of context.

Snit is like a child who is asked to talk about Africa in front of the
class and starts off like this:

Africa is the second largest continent on earth.
There are lots and lots of elephants living in Africa.
Elephants are the largest mammals on earth and they have long trunks
and large ears. Elephants use their trunks to pick things up..........

.....and what follows is a presentation on elephants rather than on the
original subject which was Africa.

Snit pulls this little trick all the time with his misquoting and subsequent
replies to those misquotes so what happens is the thread falls apart and
turns into something completely different thus masking the intent of the
OP and that particular thread.

Now, please do correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm almost certain
that's a very good example of a double standard, right?

Snit has no standards.
He is the lowest form of life and dumber than bread.

David is a stalker. And, well, snit isn't smart enough to know that.
When David gets friendly with you, it's because he wants something
from you, or wants you to do something for him. That's his MO.

When snit falls out of Davids fine graces. and he will once the
party invites start showing up, David will slink off and let snit
take the full blast for what David is primarily responsible for
having caused. And David will simply move onto another target for me
to destroy later on, as I've done previously for him, as I'm about
to do for him again.

I can't say for David as I know nothing about his behavior but
snit's MO has always been to selectively respond to items that
bolster his points and ignore those that do not.
This is why he constantly quotes out of context.

He has had some limited success with that ruse here. It's a bit
embarrassing, as I thought some of the long time regulars of this
group that I've known outside of here for decades now, we're smarter
than that.

Now, please do correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm almost
certain that's a very good example of a double standard, right?

Snit has no standards.

I've noticed. Did you see his latest reply concerning what's coming
down the pipe? He thinks doxing is perfectly legal, so long as you
only share information acquired from public sources. So he clearly
doesn't understand why the act itself actually isn't legal. It's NOT
the source of the information which makes it an illegal act. rofl.

Ah well, it's all just discussion points anyway, I have no
intentions of tieing my hands and restricting myself in any way
shape or form concerning information regarding snit. That's not in
my best interests.

Snit intends to dox, has prepared to dox, is going to get a taste of
his medicine, and then some, for his transgressions. He can whine to
anyone willing to listen after the fact, as much as he likes. David
did, all to no avail. For the same reason as snit. He thought it was
okay to do what snits about to try, too. Still does, as far as I
know.

He is the lowest form of life and dumber than bread.

Yep. His wife is going to light him a new one once the show starts.
He's not going to be able to shield or otherwise isolate her or
anyone else from this. She's going to know what he's been upto, and
if she's not onboard with it, I'd hate to be him. He has to live
with her.

He really *didn't* think his implied threat that at this point he
thinks he can make good on without any consequences through. He's an
idiot, and this time, his stupidity is going to cost him.
Considerably cost him. I'm going to make him the best ****ing
example of what you shouldn't do to a person you don't know.

And you're all going to get to see snit in the hot seat for once,
and whatever questions you might have about him, that you know he
won't honestly tell you, the information will, in spades. He won't
be able to lie or weasel his way out of all the cans of worms that
are being opened for him.

A feast is being prepared, in his honor. Everyone is invited to
come and celebrate snits promotion!

Poor Snit. Still trying to convince people that you don't use "David_B" as a
sock? Who in his right mind would accept those incredibly incompetent
YouTube videos you made as something other as to have a good laugh?

Show a YouTube video which YOU have made, Peter.

Here's one of mine (I am NOT Snit!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bChBP-6LY3Q

Sorta mesmerizing.

Do you watch it on your iMac?

Yes. And then I used my FireFox plugin to turn off comments.

Eh? Comments are turned on or off by the uploader. It's a setting when you make a youtube video.

I was mocking someone this:

Peter Köhlmann:
-----
I have a pretty good idea why you try to avoid sites like YouTube:
They can be commented. And you fear the comments more than
everything else
-----

Snit:
-----
You can block comments on YouTube.
-----

Peter Köhlmann:
-----
Really? Do you really think that your Firefox extension will still
work? Why would YouTube allow to disable comments? They have
activly disabled all extensions which tried to do that And the
mere fact that you know about disabling comments (even if it does
not work anymore) shows that you have tried to do just that.
Because you can't stand having comments about your idiocy
-----

Um, what? LOL! I made a video to help educate him:
