1. Check whether your sound mixer settings might be silencing the
windows system sounds.

Go to: "Start Settings System Sound".
Under "Advanced sound options", click "App volume device
preferences"
Check that the slider for "System sounds" is over near the
right (high), not over near the left (low).

2. Check whether your sound mixer settings might be sending windows
sounds to the wrong sound device.

Go to: "Start Settings System Sound".
Under "Advanced sound options", click "App volume device
preferences"
Next to "Master Volume", check that the "Output" drop-down is
set to the sound device where you hear your streaming sound and
MP3.
Next to "System sounds", check that the "Output" drop-down will
go to the same sound device.

3. Check whether sound files are assigned to the windows system
sounds.

Go to: Start Settings System Sound
On the right side, click "Sound control panel"
On the pop-up window, select the "Sounds" tab.
In the "Program Events" box
* A sound file is assigned to an event when there is a
speaker icon to the left of the event name.
* If you select a windows event, the name of the sound file
is shown in a box below the "Program Events" box.
* Click the "Test" button to the right of the sound file
name to test the sound.
