Default Error code - 80072efd with Live Messenger

I have had Windows XP Home for quite a long time...I have had Messenger 7.5
since it came out...A couple of month ago I upgraded my Messenger to 8.1 beta
on all six computers in my house..It worked on everyone but one which is them
main computer I use in my home office. I could not logon to Windows Live
Messenger because I keep getting the 80072efd error. So I finally went back
to 7.5 on that computer because I just didn't have time to troubleshoot
Microsoft's problems for them.

Now fast forward to today....Microsoft forces everyone to upgrade there MSN
Messenger to Live Messenger 8.1 but they didn't fix the 80072efd error...so
those of us (and I am sure there is a lot of us) who have this problem are
just out of luck...It does not matter that we have gotten everyone in our
company on it and it is now a vital communications link...and don't say I can
just go to Microsoft for help...they just tell me that there IS a charge
unless I want to go the manufacture that I bought the computer from...oh
yea...and if I do go to the manufacture, I just get someone in India that
cannot spell MSN..

I'm having the same problem, and it came up out of no where. My live
messenger has been working fine for the past two years. It worked fine this
morning too. I restarted my router, but everything looks fine. I can also
connecto to the internet, but google.com and yahoo.com don't display. I have
some key word blocking setup on my router, but i turned them off and still no
luck. I need some help lol

ok i did a little reasearch and my problem was that some of my .dll's needed
to be reregistered... that doesnt soudn like your problem though. anyways
here's what i did.
i went to "run" and then typed in:

REGSVR32 softpub.dll initpki.dll wintrust.dll

i'm using vista and got an error message with the initpki.dll. It still
fixed my problem =)

oh lol i just noticed this post is a year old...

Greetings,

Although a few things are off on some of these old posts, these libraries haven't changed in
Vista, so it's still valid advice.

hey thanks bro
i did a little more research and figured out that initpki.dll doesnt exist
in vista and thats what the error is from

Here is a list of existing ones for vista that i refreshed just for the heck
of it...

softpu.dll
wintrust.dll
rsaenh.dll
mssip32.dll
cryptdlg.dll
dssenh.dll

i think thats it and here are some that i tried that didnt work

initpki.dll
gpkcsp.dll
slbcsp.dll
sccbase.dll

i guess those are for xp and not for vista.

Hi guys,

After checking my firewall settings, the following helped me get rid of
this error on my vista premium home edition:

Step1: login as administrator
step2: start-cmd - right click-run as administrator.
step3: type this and press enter : C:\Windows\system32netsh int tcp
set global autotuninglevel=disabled
* this step takes some time.
step4: Restart msn.

Hope this helps

error code 80072efd

I have had this problem for some months now and the only available help via
google is to direct you to download xp repair software and fixes that don't
fix the problem. Why is windows live not working on my PC ... I can access it
via the internet but not via my pc. No solution yet... so much for the
boffins.
