Default "Search Companion" file missing in xp pro sp2!

I have lost abilility to search due to a missing file. I have been having a
difficult time with spyware and an extra file may have been deleted. How can
I go about restoring the function without a windows re-install?

Any help much appreciated.

Hi Pat,

Try reinstalling the Search Companion files and see if that resolves the
problem.......

Go to StartRun and key in:
%systemroot%\inf
Click on OK or hit ENTER
Locate the Srchasst.inf file, right-click on this file and then select
Install.
Have the install CD ready to insert if prompted to do so.

Patti,
Thank you for the lead. The trail to reactivate the search companion was
successful. Thank you for your input.

Best regards,

Pat
