Default Does W8.0's MS Store keep its downloaded W8.1 upgrade after upgrade failed?

Hello.

Does W8.0's MS Store keep its downloaded W8.1 upgrade after its upgrade
failed? I noticed it seems to be redownloading when I try to the 8.1
upgrade again. Is it possible to keep the files if they are not kept so
I download have to wait for the very long download (slow Internet)?

Thank you in advance.

There's a way to donload it sso you can find it. It has been mentioned
a few times in threads here, but I don't remember how it goes.

Try googling for [windows 8.1 iso] or whatever...

I doubt it very strongly. I believe that a failed download requires you
to retry from scratch.

http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-dow...8-product-key/
is probably the link you were looking for. The problem is, you have to
do this from Windows 7 ON the PC you want to use it for. Using a 32
bit PC will load the 32 bit win8 or 8.1
And no one mentioned anything in the threads about what if you had an
OEM 7, or Pro or Home. So there seem to be a lot of IF's in that page.

The "bitness" of the downloading OS, affects the "bitness"
of the ISO you download. A 32 bit OS, downloads a 32 bit image.

I've verified this, by downloading Windows 8 on a 32 bit machine,
and getting the 32 bit version. Then downloading while using
a 64 bit OS, and getting the 64 bit version. I don't
think the download OS matters all that much. I might have used
Windows 7 (x64) one time, and WinXP (x32) the other.

Windows_WIN81_X32.iso 2,605,645,824 bytes
Windows__WIN81_X64_release_ESD_version.iso 3,285,975,040 bytes

Those are based on an install.esd file. Of which, no two are alike.
Downloading the exact same version twice, I got a different checksum
on the install.esd file. That's why I didn't bother to include
MD5SUM information for those images. My checksum won't match your
checksum. I have no way to judge/verify the authenticity of that file.
I just have to trust it never got corrupted while stored on my
hard drive.

If you go with a torrent of an MSDN DVD download, those are
based on install.wim, and each copy of that floating around
should have the same checksum. Those discs will be slightly
larger, and if examined with 7ZIP, the .wim will show more
than one folder inside the archive. Each folder corresponds
to one OS version. On older OSes, you might see as many as
seven folders in there. The folders are crosslinked, with
many files being the same, so the incremental cost of
putting all OS versions in there is small. The downloads
with the install.esd, those contain only one OS copy, and
save on providing the other files. I only know the contents
of the install.esd, by looking at some manifest information
while it was downloading. Since it is encrypted, I can't
look inside the actual .esd. And I don't know if anyone
has bothered to crack the .esd, so it'll open in 7ZIP or
otherwise. There's really nothing of enduring value in there.
If you need Windows 8 individual files, just torrent the
MSDN one. Since MSDN makes checksum information available,
you can determine whether the image is adulterated or not.
If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't even mention the MSDN versions :-)
Too much of a risk, without a checksum for validation.

The above ISO9660 files, are good for installation,
and that's about it. Because of the encryption, I can't
extract individual files (like the 32 bit version of CHKDSK
or the 32 bit version of bootsect) if I want. It would be
a PITA to have to torrent the MSDN ones, just to get a
couple files like that. And I'm getting sick of downloading
DVDs like these, clogging up my disks with this crap :-)
You can't throw them out, because you don't know when
you're going to need them for some evil experiment :-)

My reason for downloading the above, is just so I don't
have to go to the Microsoft Store for my upgrade. That's
the plan :-) My purchased Win8 install is still at Win8 right now.

If it doesn't resume or not offered it should be re-offered.
If not, reset/refresh the pc.

Note: Even after a successful 8.1 install the reset returns the pc to
8.0 since 8.1 (unless installed clean) leaves those bits (in the System
Reserved and on the hard drive) alone
