Problems after installing windows xp sp2
I installed Windows XP SP2 recently ( had windows xp proffessional sp1
earlier and my laptop was working awesome ) But after installing Windows XP sp2, my laptop became quite unstable ( its configuration is 512 mb ram, 40 gb hd, 2.4 ghz ). Every time I close some folder ( any folder like My Documents or My Programs ), I receive an Internet Explorer error like "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to be closed. We are sorry for the inconvenience." This error also shows up, even if u just open any folder and close it without doing anything much. It also says "Please tell Microsoft about this problem" which I did many times but ultimately gave up. My second problem is that, everytime i right click on any tray icon on the System Tray, it gives me the tools u get when u right click on the taskbar itself and not the tools for that program on which u right clicked. Its annoying. My laptop is also running quite slower than its usual speed earlier ( even if i have done spyware scanning, virus scanning, adware scanning, disk defragmentation, disk clean up ). I was realy happy with Microsoft Windows Xp sp1 and now I cant switch back to sp1 by system restore, coz i downloaded many softwares and files after installing windows sp2, and i dont want to lose those softwares by restoring to an earlier restoration point... Its realy depressing and any help regarding those problems will be very much appriciated. Atleast with so much problems with sp2, I wont be suggesting any of my friends the windows xp proffessional sp2, unless Microsoft helps me and solves my problems. Thanks. |

Problems after installing windows xp sp2
Hi,
I have SP2 on my Dell Latitude C640 and have had no problems with it. All my programs, games, etc runs well, no errors and slow downs. I have seem some preformance increase since the install. Some of the problems I have read from other posts, could be from previously removed spyware causing some system file damage prior to installing SP2. Also some have had a corrupted download of SP2 to cause some of the problems. How did you install SP2? From Windows Updates? Downloading the full SP2 install? From SP2 update CD? Before thinking its SP2, you might consider what source you used for the install. I installed my SP2 from the full install I downloaded from MS, I have had heard problems from those that just allowed the automatic update to do the install. Also did you follow all the pre-install steps prior to installing SP2? Most problems occur from not properly preparing your system. Besides my laptop, also installed it on my desktop and 128 work computers and none of them are having any problems.
