Default XP program tro get router statistics.

I have a Zyxel C1100Z DSL router from Century Link. They are somewhere
between reluctant and unable to give me my monthly usage statistics
(GB).
Is there an XP tool that will allow me to access that, getting me the
total use, not just from one PC.

It's got a browser interface.

Anything in there ?

https://www.centurylink.com/home/hel...e-console.html

I use that link for the pictures. I'm not advocating
enabling any *WAN* side remote console. However, if
it had telnet from the LAN side, that might have
more details.

No useful manuals popped up in a quick search.

For example, when I looked for my ADSL modem/router
when I first got it, there was a 100+ page manual
just for "router rules". Quite complicated, and not
something I've ever used. But, it was an example at the
time, of what manuals were floating around. That device
was occasionally marketed as an ISP modem/router, which made
the existence of a manual like that all the more amazing.

*******

And I doubt something like DMT is associated with the router part.
It's more likely to display ADSL stats obtained by some
sort of telnet connection. Different "versions" of software,
cover different ADSL modem models.

https://kitz.co.uk/routers/DMTv8.htm

Some modem/routers have a TTL level serial port inside
the device, which requires a USB to TTL TX/RX/GND cable
to operate. Maybe 9600 baud. Then, you have to find
some sort of reference as to what commands to try.

You would have to find an article about someone opening
up the C1100Z, to understand whether it was possible or
useful.

I poked around and I did not see anything that had statistics.
There is a USB port but that looks like more than I am ready to figure
out.
Thanks I guess I will just keep trying to get them to tell me. I have
to believe they are tracking it.

There seems to be more than one pages which show the related statistics.

http://screenshots.portforward.com/r...net_Status.jpg

http://screenshots.portforward.com/r...DSL_Status.jpg

http://screenshots.portforward.com/r...ion_Status.jpg

Those are from the web interface, BTW.

You can create your own batch file to retrieve the pages using e.g. cURL or
WGet, then parse the HTML page in order to get the numbers. I don't know
what program to parse the HTML page, but there should be plenty of them on
the internet.

I think the OP is looking for TX and RX byte counters.
Presumably to compare to the telco counters, as a means
of verifying their counter system.

Some ISPs have a web page you can log into (portal),
where your byte count is on display. And you could
compare that to your privately maintained (local)
byte counter.

The telco has the option of counting "any byte on the link",
including overhead bytes. Or of counting "goodput" bytes,
after decapsulation. The "any byte on the link"
option was popular when ADSL first came out.

I had a $39.95 router that had TX and RX byte counters for
the WAN, but nothing for the LAN. Which is useful if you
can get it. I'm not advocating sticking such a box downstream
of the Zyxel, at least unless that box has mighty I/O
performance. My little router would only route at about
3MB/sec or so, and if you had a higher account than that
with the ISP, that might degrade your downloads.

If the ISP-supplied cable modem + router does not have an option to log
traffic statistics, you could put your own router or switch in from of
the cable modem; i.e., move all host connections to your own router and
connect the router to the cable modem. I haven't bothered to research
which consumer-grade routers have an option to log traffic stats. In an
online search, one example was:

https://boombroadband.com.au/boomroo...yarticle&id=42
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0w1rNWtK_wg

I've not use the router's in those articles. Those are examples
consumer-grade routers that have traffic stats logging. The cable
modem's supplied by ISP's are designed NOT to provide much information
or configurability. You'll need to use your own router or switch to log
the traffic volume.

Doesn't your own ISP provide a usage stats page to monitor how much
traffic all your hosts have generated through their network?
