I don't think it's difficult or complicated to have
a website, but as with a lot of tech, it's hard to
find the information and put it all together.

The engineers give you unreadable RFC files. The
marketers speak in gibberish, going on about leveraging
cutting edge solutions across the enterprise. And the
tech support people dumb it down to the point of
uselessness.

It's easy to use an FTP program, but before you get
to that point you have to have a grasp of http,
explorer-style interfaces, website server file layout,
domain name buying, owning and registration, HTML,
and TCP-IP. Most people have no idea how a website
shows up in a browser window, and no part of that
process is self-evident.

If you have a question about file hosting, just ask. Or if you
know of a site that allows you to host files without javascript,
please post it. Helping people would be a first for you, though.

Avoid links to external sites, unless they are for legitimate
downloads of software or services being discussed.

Potential phishing victims, visit his site, it's pretty much
up to date, and it's safe (check on Sucuri, Netstat and WOT before
clicking):

Can you explain why I get this result?

CUT_POSSIBLE_STALKING_SITE

I clicked on the link(I checked first with a malware scanner),
it loaded normally. There were some Google and Wordpress trackers, but
no malware out of the ordinary. You forgot to add an "s" to the http,
so the site automatically redirected you to https.
Some hosts do not allow http (unencrypted) connections. You
will never manage to connect to a bank or do shopping using http.

Maybe the site you used as a completely random example sells something
?

No certificate errors, I can't see what's giving you a
"hinky".

In the case of

http://tekrider.net/pages/david-brooks-stalker.php
and
https://tekrider.net/pages/david-brooks-stalker.php

The content is exactly the same, because there is no
redirection. The second version is sent encrypted, the first one is
not. You can choose.
This is pretty much beginners stuff, BD. And has absolutely
nothing to do with the thread. OT up.

You might consider putting your downloads behind a real
download link rather than a scripted "document" service.
I get the same thing with Google docs. The URLs don't go
to webpages. They just go to script. And I'm expected to
let them basically run software on my computer, when all
I want to do is read some text.

Now uploaded over 200 text files to Koofr plus a zip file containing them
all, but I suspect there will be the same objections.

I expect so, with js disabled, the page is white cat in a snowstorm.

Maybe look at the free tier of https://www.pythonanywhere.com ?

I've seen a pure html website hosted there, so I don't believe they
require you to use python.

Worked fine. This link showed up, with javascript disabled:

https://app.koofr.net/content/links/?maybe_profiling_number?/files/get/Freeware.zip?path=

Downloaded by clicking on it. I couldn't see any of the other
files.

Freeware.zip
3.215.885 bytes

MD5: 06010ab3aca5e640820f1a79e40d2290
SHA-1: 2438ae7176f7b3a03b0fa96e3d94c5a649cb5138

Maybe you should add Lazarus to the programming section where
you have Free Pascal.

http://www.lazarus-ide.org/

And I couldn't find x64dbg

https://sourceforge.net/projects/x64dbg/

Probably the best debugger to use when your IDE can't find
what's wrong with a program. An Ollydbg look-alike, but constantly
updated and maintained.

Is that enough objections ?
Ah, if I unzip your zip then re-zip it, it's almost half the
size.

Same objections, yes. But thanks for your efforts.
In Pale Moon I see all white, like Andy. In Firefox
I see a mess with some links, like Shadow sees. But
the links don't work. They go to a page that says
"hotlinking not allowed!".
Maybe that's because I block referrers? Could be.

Yes, it no longer works when I turn referrers off.

I turned referrers on and forgot to turn them off (blushes
over that security blunder). I think I needed them for something on
M****Hub.
Did my link work ? It's exactly the same content, re-zipped to
show Wasbit there's something weird with his archiver. I have no
intention of "hijacking" his work.
Works for me. No referrers, no javascript.

Yes, that works. Thanks. It looks like a treasure trove of
lists. Your link brings me to a webpage, but the link on
the webpage worked.

This is amazing. I'm thinking that it might be possible
to design some kind of system. My idea is that we
could have a software program that loads files from
different locations, and you can go there by clicking.
No muss, no fuss. Just travelling all over, accesing files.
We could call it the world wide web, or something
like that. I think it might work much more smoothly
than this commercial web app mania system we have
now.

I had exactly the same vision 20 years ago. In my virtual
reality, it was called a "browser". Do you do telepathy ?

Yep works fine.
You could have made the file smaller if you had excluded the zip file &
compacted only the text files.
Thanks

I thought you could use your own URL to "serve" the files?
