Drive speed
I used to have my local HDD connected on a UDMA controller (HTP366) board.
Recently I connected it as a master on the onboard IDE controller (with a CDRW as a slave). When I now perform a read speed test with HDtach I still get about the 60Mb/sec max read speed, but often there are dips in the speed plot (down to 5Mb/sec). Does this mean that an extra PCI based IDE controller board is preferable for highest speed (sustained) performances? |

Drive speed
The IDE channel will be slowed down by slower CD-RW drive. Depending on the
number of drives you have, the hard drive should be master on IDE 0 channel and CD-RW as master on IDE 1 channel. "Andre De Clercq" wrote in message ... Thanks Yves. Is this also true if the CD-RW is not active?

No it won't. That applied to early IDE controllers ten years ago, not to anything which can do UDMA. -- Alex Nichol MS MVP (Windows Technologies) Bournemouth, U.K. (remove the D8 bit) |
