2-DVD-Roms Shows up
My system has a single CD/DVD-RW. However; using windows explorer, I see 2
of them labeled as shown: DVD-RAM Drive (H) DVD Drive (R) They show up as the H and R drive. When DVD is put in, only the H drive recognizes the disk. Why is this the case and what do I do? When I see the words RAM, I'm thinking that is a drive in Memory. Any help is appreciated. |

Hi JCO:
DVD-RAM is a DVD format, in addition to DVD+ and DVD- What you are seeing is normal. A web search will provide plenty of information on DVD-RAM. --- Leonard Grey Since no one was buying 'Earl Grey' JCO wrote: My system has a single CD/DVD-RW. Boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager, delete/remove ALL CD/DVD drives
you find, reboot, Windows will re-detect and, hopefully, drive letters will now make more sense. "JCO" wrote in message ... My system has a single CD/DVD-RW. Hello,
Do you have any dvd-rom emulators installed? Examples are - Daemon Tools - Alcohol 120% - virtual cd If so, that is the emulated drive you are seeing as a DVD Drive. -- Singapore Web Design http://www.bootstrike.com/Webdesign/ Singapore Web Hosting http://www.bootstrike.com/WinXP/faq.html Windows XP FAQ "JCO" wrote in message ... No I have not had any of the emulators installed, that I know of. I just
put this computer together with a new motherboard, AMD 3800 processor & Memory. It does have the Media interface where you can put a Card Reader/Rewriter... I guess for camera cards. This is also where the USB's are located. Added Note: It's the H drive, the one that says DVD-RAM that changes when every a DVD or CD is put in. The R drive that just says DVD Drive has never acknowledged the fact that a CD or DVD was inserted. "SingaporeWebDesign" wrote in message ... Hello, Do you have any dvd-rom emulators installed? I did read some stuff about this and it does appear to be a better format
than DVD+ or DVD-. However, why does both drive show up on Windows Explorer? As I answered "SingaporeWebDesign", only the H-Drive (that Says DVD-RAM) recognizes when a DVD or CD is inserted. The R-Drive (that reads DVD-Drive) has never recognized anything. Makes me curious. "Leonard Grey" wrote in message ... Unless Roxio Ver 9 does that automatically with out realizing it.

"JCO" wrote in message ... Unless Roxio Ver 9 does that automatically with out realizing it. Chances are, this is where your extra drive comes in. I believe that Roxio has a virtual drive program called "In-CD". At least that is what it used to be called; it might even be called In-DVD now. If you look at the link below, Under the, "Burn Fast and Conveniently" section, the sixth dot, "...by creating virtual drives..." That is where their virtual drive program comes into play. If you never use it, I'm sure that there is a setting somewhere in the options for the software. Just try to find something that deals with "virtual drives," and turn it off... The phantom drive to vanish. |

There you go. I killed off my Roxio/Sonic stuff. Caused me nothing but trouble. I had an extra nonexistent CD Drive showing up, too. And it was the "default" so I couldn't use my own CD Burning software. I had to go in and change the registry keys under Nero to point to the real, physical CD Drive. Good luck -- *rain*drops* "JCO" wrote in message ... Unless Roxio Ver 9 does that automatically with out realizing it. "SingaporeWebDesign" wrote in message ... In-CD is part of Nero, not Roxio.
But your right, Roxio does have a virtual drive. Ans so does Sonic, which is now part of Roxio. Sonic uses DLA and Roxio uses Drag 2 Disc. "FeMaster" FeMaster @ hotmail . com wrote in message ... Yup, you are correct. I never use any of those things, so I forget what
they are called. I only have one virtual drive (a real one) from Alcohol 120%. I don't need any of that CD-RW / DVD-RW trickery to make them work like a regular HD or Floppy...
