Default Searching for drives in Win Explorer & My Computer

Recently my system started to do some strange things. One is that every time
I want to get something off a partition other than C:, the flash light comes
up and it takes about a minute for all the drives to be found. How can I fix
this so that the system once again finds everything quickly? I save all my
files to a remote drive, so this constant waiting is becoming a serious
interruption. Thanks in advance.

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in the System and
Application logs for the last boot and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...308427&sd=tech

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button
resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message.
This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report into the
message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Gerry

There are quite a few error messages, but several appear very often.
In the System Event Viewer, they include:
The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service hung on starting.
The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service terminated unexpectedly. It
has done this 1 time(s).
The server {A1F4E726-8CF1-11D1-BF92-0060081ED811} did not register with
DCOM within the required timeout.

In the Application Event Viewer, I also have a ton of errors, including:
Fault bucket 00803184.
Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module
unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00ab96bc. (This is the one that
keeps generating those blasted error messages when I boot the system)

There are other errors, but the ones above are happening all the time. It's
really quite a pain. Many thanks for your help.
