Default Upgrade of OEM windows 8.1 to 10

I just want to make sure I'm going at this right.
I want to get the entitlement for 10 but at the same time I might as
well do a clean install.

Since I have an OEM copy of 8.1 and no license Key, if I boot off the
windows 10 DVD I've created with MCT, and do a clean upgrade (don't save
my data), will it license anyway? It won't ask me for a key which I
don't have?

I have an image of 8.1 so it's just a matter of wasting time to do
something that won't do what I want. I'll maybe just put 8.1 back. Maybe.

Thanks.

You cant do that for free.
You heve to First update te currenty version to Win10 and see if its
activated.
Then delete the boot end Win8 partition and doe al clean install of
Win10.
Choose for no key, after install the machine is automatic activated bij
MS.

If the machine is "relatively" new and I presume it is because you have
8.1, the key is already in your BIOS and Windows 10 installation program
will find it automatically. However, to be certain, I suggest download
this program and run it once so that it can retrieve your KEY from BIOS
and then you need to save it in text file on your USB flash drive just
in case it is needed.

As you are doing clean installation, It should work and you will be up
and running in about 25 minutes.

Good luck and post back with the results.

No longer necessary with the latest ISO as it can accept the Win7, Win8
and Win8.1 serial numbers. For Win8 and Win8.1, the keys are in the
BIOS and so this is also not required. For Win7, you do need a serial
number if you are doing a clean installation but this is not a problem
fior most people as there are tools to retrieve them from the system.

Then delete the boot end Win8 partition and doe al clean install of
Win10.

Yes delete every partition the installation program can find and
effectively start afresh. I deleted everything and the installation
program created the necessary partitions to install Win10. The best
experience ever and you know there are can't be any other conflicts
because there was nothing on the HD.

The above is not always true.

Depending on the age of the motherboard and/or BIOS the old serial
number may not be stored in it.

Since you do not have the serial numbers to safely do what you want you
either need to do the upgrade followed by the clean install once your
have verified the upgrade did indeed activate. The other and best
alternative is to make an image copy of your hard drive. Unplugging the
original hard drive and verify the clone will boot properly to the old
OS. Then on either drive you can do the fresh install knowing that if
it fails to activate you can plug in the old OS again and go through the
upgrade/fresh install scenario.

The odds are that the motherboard may contain the serial number but I
would not want to risk it since the other methods are just about certain
to work in the end.

Maybe.

Thanks.

The MSDM ACPI table in your OEM Win8.1 machine
holds the license key. The 10586.xxx media
can find this during the install.

If you want to see your MSDM for amusement purposes,
there is an example here.

Sorry, this is for my situation, for i have the user datamaps on D.
Adjust D: to C: if you have your desktop still original on C.
