out of curiosity..pirated xp/sp2

Default out of curiosity..pirated xp/sp2

I have a purchased version of xp.... but just out of curiosity....what
happens if you have a pirated version of winxp and you download sp2?. Does
microsoft condone the pirated version for sp2?..does sp2 report the version
of winxp as pirated to microsoft and not allow the download?...

Service packs check your product ID and if it is pirated
it will not allow you to download it

You may not be able to install the SP2 file. In addition you may not be
able to Windows Update either.

I believe that it would depend on the product key that was used for the dodgy
copy of XP. MS block lists of known pirated ones from SP installs and windows
update.

I've heard talk of being able to change the product key after installation
though
