SOCKS 5 proxy authentication failed...
maybe you can uncheck bypass proxy server for local
address or add the windows messenger server name in the do not user proxy server for addresses beginning with : -----Original Message----- Hello, I've setup Instant Messaging service on SBS 2000 server on my network. When I try to connect using the Windows Messenger v.5 client on Windows XP I get the following error: "Windows Messenger" "SOCKS 5 proxy authentication failed." The issue here is that I've explicitly disabled the "I use a proxy server" setting on the connection tab of the IM client but still get the error. I'm at a loss, please help. Thanks, Jed . |

SOCKS 5 proxy authentication failed...
Darlie,
Thanks for the idea. I'm assuming you are referring to the Internet Explorer settings to make these changes. I tried it, unfortunately it didn't make a difference. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.
