Default %1 is not a valid Win 32 application

Error message 800700C1 (in association with the above subject) is given
whenever I try to view video with WMP on XP Pro. This happens even when I
try to view previously viewed videos which have been stored on my computer.
I can not find reference to this problem on the MS FAQ sites. Has anyone a
suggestion re. the problem?
Thanks
