One freeze resolved itself, after I waited for a couple minutes. And a problem with a loss of control (via Task Manager), when the system was under Pool memory pressure. I couldn't use Task Manager (which was already running), to shut down the application that sucked up all the Pool memory. I eventually had to power off the system to recover. This takes Win8.1 off my "suitable for use as a compute engine" list. Compute performance, at least on my setup, seems to be about the same. Paul |

Windows 8.1 is so much better than Windows 8 that it's like peanut-butter-AND-jelly (PB&J) instead of just plain bread. The colors are brighter; the sounds are crisper; and, the air is much cleaner; PLUS, it leaves a smaller carbon-footprint. Windows 8.1 is downright 'Earth-Friendly'... We should be too! Isn't windows 8.1 a subscription service? You have to pay for it
periodically, and pay for it again, over and over? |

Microsoft is making an update to Windows 8.0, calling it Windows 8.1, and were going to have to pay for it like a new operating system? Or will it be free to Windows 8.0 users? |
