It seems to be a matter of chance.

At one time I plugged mine in and Picasa started copying photos to
God-knows-where.

I had to be ready to pres Alt-F4 as soon as it stared and then Picasa
would complain that it hadn't finished.

Default AutoPlay

Freeman,

How to stop it ?

The below seems to work for me. It disables *all* autorun, including from
CD/DVD

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:000000FF
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Either open regedit, follow the path and alter/create the NoDriveTypeAutoRun
data, or cut-and-paste into a textfile with the extension ".reg" and
double-click it.

How else will it know what to do?

Don't plug it back in?

What does it do when it is done with scanning the device? Ask you
for further input, or just close the window?
