Default xp home slowdown after sp2 install

I attempted to install sp2 on the machine describe after this text. after
install I logged into my profile and got a blue screen ... with a cursor
and nothing else. I waited and waited as the harddrive light indicated
activity. after about 3 minutes the start bar appeared,,another 2 minutes
and the desktop icons appeared. i selected start and after about 2 minutes
start expanded upward, went to update/help about 2 minutes this page
appeared. I eventually was able to install the intel application
accelarator. and rebooted with the same performance degredation.

I had prior to sp2 install deactivated using msconfig all of the startups
apps, and i had done the research listed in the links that have appeared in
this newsgroups and others and all of my drivers were current.

Finally i gave up and rolled sp2 off using checkpoint restore.

My system works as one would expect so restore was sucessful.

I have been sucessful in updating our home laptops with sp2 with no problems.

This desktop requires intels application accelorator and i installed the
current version of this both before and after sp2 update.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks ernie
