If you just
start typing at the default cursor position when Replying, you will
top-post, but you can bottom-post by simply repositioning the cursor to
the bottom of the page. It involves almost no learning curve when
transitioning from Outlook Express, and I'm happy with it.

You can set it to bottom-post.
Tools Options Advanced Reply on the bottom of a Message.

The cursor opens at the top -- where you are supposed to begin *trimming*!
Nothing wrong with that, if you understand why trimming is important.

Trimming is good, although some posters object and call it "distortion".
I didn't trim much so that anyone could archive a single posting and
understand the thread that led up to the top/bottom tip.
