I have/had some technical problems with Windows XP. For example... X-
Plane 10 takes 5-10 minutes to load.

Wow! I too have X-Plane (v9). And I have only installed it on my XP
machines. Although I have installed other games on my Windows 7/8
machines. Nor have I seen any speed improvement over XP. At best, they
run about the same. At worst, some won't run at all under Windows 8 CP
for example. In a week or two, I'll find out how Windows 8 works with them.

If you want to know what I'm talking about, you can simply
download the X-Plane 10 demo.

Demos are too limited. That is why they are called demos. ;-)

It's the same with the retail version.

And I'm beginning to wonder if this thing can read.

I went over to the X-Plane website and looked over the system specs that
one needs to run it. And it looks like I won't be able to take part in
this little experiment. As my game machines are from 2007 and they just
don't have enough power to pull it off. X-Plane v9 full install was
60GB. I hate to imagine how large v10 would be.

So I am just going to take your word for it. But I guess it does make
sense, since Windows 7/8 are far better at taking advantage of newer
hardware while XP isn't. But then again, newer isn't always better in
all cases.
