Installing Windows Mail in Windows 8
I know this has been discussed here before. I've been trying to
install said program in Win8 for two weeks now without success. I have followed the instructions fron several different sites, one at a time, to the letter and it still doesn't work. All the files from my Vista 64 bit were copied to Win8 and also the requires dll file. All the instructions I've seen seem to be for versions of Win8 before the official release. It seeme to be that dll file that has to be added that is causing the problem. Some say put it in the Windows Mail folder, some say put it in the System32 folder and register it. The problem is, it won't register on my Windows 8. BTW I have installed Windows Mail in Windows 7 with no problems. Anyway if anyone has a sure fire way to install Windows Mail in Win8 I would certainly appreciate knowing it. Thanks for looking. Walt |

Unless you don't like Thunderbird ;-) The correct answer for you may not be the correct answer for everyone. To the OP: The success rate here http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/34582-How-to-install-Windows-Mail-on-Windows-8 seem to be somewhat mixed. With only a 39% success rate, I think I'd try something else, maybe even Thunderbird. -- SC Tom |

Fair enough but I'd rather have a stable supported program that takes seconds to install than an unsupported program that requires hours of time wasting research to find the appropriate ritual to shoehorn it in. |

True; hence the reply to the OP. I've never tried that cobbled-together solution myself just for the fact that 1) I wasn't that crazy about Win Mail in the first place, and 2) it's not worth the time to me trying to MAKE it work. -- SC Tom |

With so many people still wanting to use WM you'd think MS would have a free copy online somewhere that works with W-7 and W-8. I did get it to work on W-7 after a lot of aggravation and time. |
