Bootable Windows 8 DVD

Will do the ISO upgrade Win8 32bit from MS. I have read that it is
possible to create a bootable Win8 DVD from the iso. Has anybody
successfully done this and upgraded their Win7 Pro from the bootable
DVD? Also would appreciate any URLs to the instructions you followed to
create the bootable Win8 DVD.

With Nero 6 you check the little box that says: "Make Bootable CD"

Use the ISO file with any CD/DVD burning program that will make a
bootable DVD.

Search for "make a bootable DVD with my choice of burner software".

With Nero 6 you check the little box that says: "Make Bootable CD"

With Windows 7 you right klick the iso file and select the burn to cd
option.

I did. In my case, 64-bit.

I burned it to DVD with the option "Burn ISO image" in CDBurnerXP, a
free program. That's all the instruction you need...

Or, you can use a separate program if you want.

And to complete the feature set, I found a "mount" option
for ISO9660 files, in Windows 8. So no need for clumsy
third party mounter options any more. What I can't tell you,
is whether all content is handled transparently or not. I don't
have enough media samples here, to test for that. It mounted
my one test DVD (non-commercial) like it was a hard drive
or something.

Always used for burning / copying Windows 7 DVDs with default settings.
Always worked. Works for Windows 8 too. ImgBurn is free software.

Also you can create bootable USB stick. Really!
It's even approved by Microsoft. I in 2012 preferred installation from USB.

occurred to me to look within Windows 7 (or 8) for those capabilities.

OK, I did it this year :-)

I did the second test on this machine using the Windows 8 Release
Preview in VMware. It took me a long time to get there because I screwed
up and got into an infinite loop of mistakes :-)

1. Windows 8 indeed will mount an ISO as a virtual DVD or CD.

2. If I try to mount a second ISO, it mounts under a new drive letter
and leaves the first one intact.

3. If I select burn an ISO to disk, W8 enters a dialog to do that. I
assume it will work, but I canceled it instead of trying to actually
burn a disk.

BUT...

I can't find a native way in Windows 7 or 8 to create an ISO image from
an optical disk.

So I guess I have to keep ImgBurn or CDBurnerXp :-)

But it looks like I won't need Virtual CloneDrive in Win 8.
