Default partial fix for intrusive thumbnails

Sometime back Microsoft posted that they were no longer
supporting Usenet group and we should use their forums. I
tried, but apparently have forgotten how to do that, I'm 74.
So I asked in soc.retirement as they are more tolerant of
old people, and they directed me here.

I'm of the point and click school and was bothered by not
being able to disable thumbnails. After looking through as
many Microsoft help forums as I could find, it appeared that
the help applied to Windows 7, not 8. With nothing else to
do, I tried to update the advice I found as follows:

Windows flag key and C key.
select search.
select files option below search window.
select show hidden files
select always show icons, never thumbnails.

thinking there was no other source of help. When I got to
this group, I see I should have started here. Anyway, I've
had enough searching help file, could someone post the
procedure to disable thumbnails under Windows 8. tia

I'll probably never get this right but the sequence I came
up with is:

windows plus c

search

settings

f

check box

Some search engines can accept a "site:" specifier. For example, I
tried these terms

site:sevenforums.com disable thumbnails

and found this article. Maybe it's similar enough to help with Windows 8.
They don't always copy the recipes over to the other site.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...e-disable.html

I tried this search, but nothing really appropriate shows up

site:eightforums.com disable thumbnails

HTH,
Paul
