Deleted Items

In Windows 8, is there a folder where all deleted items are stored
until that folder is emptied? I'm talking about a simple delete, not a
Shift - Delete. I know this gets rid of the file permanently, but the
older versions of Windows saved deleted items to a folder and they
could be recovered in case one changed their mind later. Gordon

The Recycle Bin is still on the desktop by default.

In the file manager, it shows at the bottom of the Navigation pane
(on the left).

There's a recycle bin, just as there was in previous versions.

Sorry, but no, it doesn't. "Deleting" a file doesn't actually delete
it; it just marks the space as available to be used. There are
third-party programs that can sometimes recover deleted files. The
problem is that the space used by the file is likely to become
overwritten very quickly, and this makes the file unrecoverable.

So your chances of successfully recovering this file are decent if you
try recovering it immediately after deleting it, and rapidly go
downhill from there.

If your machine has an SSD then Windows will also mark the previously
used space for TRIMing, so the drive itself may well re-organise the
contents of part-filled erase blocks and then erase them ... so the
chance of being able to "undelete" is now lower than before.
