Default Win 8.1, Win 7 Pro, and Adobie reader

Getting setup to do a tax return due in October got me into a repeat of
an old problem!
Years ago, Adobie decided to disable the form fill out in some later
versions of the free reader. We back then, had to load an older version
of the reader to fill out the state and federal returns.

Much to my surprise, a similar problem has re-appeared.
The latest and greatest reader version will read and allow form fill and
save when run as a stand alone app. When run from I.E. or Firefox,
a "you must install a later version of Adobie Reader to use the form
fill and save data functions" appears, not the form.

This is with the latest reader version installed, and the repair
feature also tried.

There is a 2012 version that seems to be what the cat drug in when
Firefox and IE was installed or updated. In addition, there are (win7)
references and associated reader files buried in a win installer area.

?????

I'd guess that the registry entries are not updated properly when the
latest and greatest reader version is installed, even if you uninstall
the older version first. There seem also to be browser related entries
in the browser files/data that don't get updated.

I sort of expect odd problems like this with my day to day desktop,
due to the way win 7 was setup years ago, and the large number of apps
and changes over the years, but not on a brand new (last December) win

Foxit can do odd things to the forms. Seems that Adobie's program used
to make the forms has some gotchas built in to "encourage" use of their
reader. At least, that was my experience last year. If it wasn't for the
"&*(%" forms, I would have gotten rid of Adobie reader a long time ago.

(The state "interactive" tax form went nuts with Foxit.)
