Will upgrades be free?
I have Win7 ultimate & Windows 8.1 and I heard there's a time window
after the release of Windows10 when the upgrade is free. Is this so? I installed all mine from DVDs. Of course I'll need Bitlocker. Peter |

I haven't seen anything but then I'm getting tired of the speculations. |

I think I just saw it mentioned in PCWorld digital edition (there's no paper edition any more). Free upgrade to W10 from W8 and from W7 during the first year after release. -- Gene E. If you mean Windows 10, it has *not* been released yet. It will probably be released toward the end of this year. |

At the current time, the word is that the free version of Windows you'll be getting, you will have no control over Windows Update. It'll just throw in the updates and reboot your machine, when ever *it* decides is a good time. (Even with the 24 hour delay option for the reboot, that's not enough.) We still don't know whether a Microsoft Account is mandatory with Win10. Or whether Cloud integration guarantees some of our files end up stored on a Microsoft server. There are *lots* of questions you would be asking about this deal. Don't just "sheep it"... Paul |

In related news, it has come to light that Microsoft recently filed a patent application for the trademark “Windows 365.” The application was filed on January 29 of this year and suggests that Microsoft could be considering the possibility of rolling out a subscription model for Windows. http://www.techspot.com/news/59708-m...rtm-files.html |
