Having replied to the first post and bottom posted any simpleton should

Yes, but this works in 32-bit Windows 8, but not in 64-bit Windows 8.

Ken

Maybe that's why I'm having trouble. I also can't find the right Byte
sequence in the Hex Editor.

Candidate for the killfile then? That's where inconsiderate people belong.

I rarely killfile - usually only for excessively profane or racist

But if a post is too much bother to read or parse, I won't bother to
read or parse it :-)

No, not for me. He knows his **** and I'd like to hear what he has to
say, so I'll glance at his posts in case they're readable, as they
sometimes are (if they are the first or only response.) Most often,
though, they're incomprehensibly garbled, so I just move on.

Killfiles are for annoyances. His posts are merely disappointing.

Dave,
I read this with interest. But, I think I have a problem in
implementing the changes.

My only Win7 copy is now the Win8. I have Vista 32bit, but the
Win7/Win8 is 64 bit. I doubt that I can copy/paste a 32 bit DLL from
my 32 bit Vista into a 64 bit machine. Please confirm.

Thanks,

The 32 bit dll goes into the relevant card games sub-folder.
Then the Microsoft Games folder is put into the Program Files (x86)
folder on a 64 bit machine.

Thanks Dave, I just now found that when I expanded the Windows.old
folder. I'm now going to locate a Hex Editor. Should be no problem as in
the old days (before retiring) I used HEX on occasion.

I had mentioned that in my reply to you earlier. Also, if you'll look a
little over half the way down the page on the article, you'll find a
download link for the Game Patcher, so you don't need to do any hex editing.
Works great!

Nope, works great in 64-bit Win8 Pro. I already did it 3 or 4 days ago.

I used the search function in the Hex Editor and did not find the proper
Hex sequence. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I say the Game Patcher but decided the Hex Search would be OK for the 3
games the Wife uses.

That's good to hear. But it didn't work here. The hex editor couldn't
find the characters to edit. And Mellowed said the same thing.

Any suggestions as to what I might have been doing wrong? It was the
same things I did on my wife's 32-bit Windows, where it worked fine.

I used the Game Patcher in the link on howtogeek. Also, the Microsoft Game
folder has to go in Program Files instead of Program Files(X86). I have
Solitaire, Spider Solitaire, and FreeCell on mine, and they all work as they
did in Win 7.

I'll agree with that second statement if you leave out "merely." You'd
think an "mvp" would take some pride in his work. :-/

After working most of the day on this issue, Game Patcher FIXED the
problem. Win7 games now work on Win8

Many thanks SC for your persistance in showing me the solution.

Ken, I tried the Game Patcher suggested by SC Tom and it did fix the
problem. I now have Win7 games working on Win8 64 bit.
