Default Two IEplorers on Win8 ?

I'm new to Win8, and just got a Win8 laptop. It seems there are two
Internet Explorers on this machine. One is the one I'm used to, with the
URL field and tabs on top (it's IE10, which I'm learning), which is
accessed from the desktop, and the other 'look' is new to me, and it's
accessed when in the Metro configuration, and you click on the IE square.
This has the disappearing URL at the bottom, with no Tools, etc, and no
obvious way to close it.

What's up?

TIA
