PS ...
Is this a real threat to Windows 8 too ?

"ZoomIn a security advisory released on Tuesday, Microsoft announced that it
has released a fix that will disable the Windows Sidebar and Gadgets on
supported editions of Windows Vista and Windows 7. While many end-users may
pout that they can no longer play virtual piano or giggle at their kitty cat
clock, Microsoft insists it's in everyone's best interest, as
vulnerabilities have been discovered that will allow remote code execution."

Yes, it is possible to have gadgets under Windows 8. It requires files
from Windows 8 CP though. And yes, Windows 8 doesn't support gadgets
because of this vulnerability.

Bill,

Where do we find the recipe for putting Gadget support from 8 CP
into Win 8 Ultimate Retail?

Not really strange. Rightly or wrongly, it wasn't until 10 July 2012 that
MS released a security advisory reporting that the gadget interface had what
amounted to an uncorrectable security vulnerability and strongly
recommending that the gadget feature be disabled. (See MS Security Advisory
2719622; http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s...isory/2719662; see
also the related KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2719662.) This
was after the last of the preview images was released, and only about five
weeks before RTM.

Joe
