Flip3D in group policy
Knowing that this has been discussed many times, i wonder if someone has
some details. In my particular case (visually handicaped user) i enjoyed 'Flip 3D' in Win7 and it did help me to choose - if many applications were open at the same time. Now i am running Windows8PRO (64bit) on a Samsung Series 5 laptop, everything is mostly ok. What i would like to know is if the actual feature of flip 3D is really removed or if there is some way to call it (WITHOUT using 3rd party workarounds). Found it interesting that when calling the group policy GPEDIT.MSC and then navigated to Administrative Vorlagen / WindowsKomponenten /DesktopFensterManager (this is my German Version, suppose in English it is ... ) ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES / WINDOWS_COMPONENTS / DESKTOP_WINDOW_MANAGER there is an entry that says "Aufruf von Flip 3D nicht zulassen" (in english most likely something like) "DO NOT ALLOW EXECUTION OF FLIP 3D" This is set to DISABLE and thus, Flip3D could (or should) be available, but it is not. Aero Peek is set (and IMHO dekstop composition is always on). So just the question, is the Flip thing really totally removed and is this group policy thing just a remain of the ruin? Or does it have any effect? greetings from Dresden in Germany, and all the best whishes for x-mas for everyone ... Roland Schweiger |

Afaik, registry orphans exist for prior 'Aero Glass' features.
In Windows 8 Aero Glass was removed but not Desktop Windows Manager. Thus orphans may exist but afaik the entire the underlying code is no longer included with the o/s It may also be important to note that the underpinnings of the Modern UI apps (fka Metro) use Direct2D which moves the graphical capabilities to Native Code so that apps can rewrite the UI while keeping their back-end in C++. That is why the vast majority of Microsoft's apps use Direct2D (directly impact the loss of support of XP) and also includes other products like IE9/10, Windows Essentials 2012, and the big daddy supporting software suite Office 2013. There are 3rd party utilities that can provide some similar approaches but not everything. http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadF...in-windows-81/ -- ....winston msft mvp "Roland Schweiger" wrote in message ... "..winston"
There are 3rd party utilities that can provide some similar approaches but not everything. http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadF...in-windows-81/ Tnx. I tried it but this switcher application appears somewhat buggy. Well, Direct2D is ok ... in my case i hardly use new UI APPs (apart from primitive things like glancing at the weather report). And i run Office 2010 (64bit) which works ok ... no idea how that accesses the graphics card. My Samsung Series 5 by the way has "2 graphics cards" - the Intel HD 4000 and an nVidia thing with 1GB dedicated. Found it surprising that in DXDIAG the nVidia card does not show up. So i suppose either windows8 or the Intel driver (or some specific driver from Samsung) decides which card to use when ... greetings Roland Schweiger |
