Require permission from computer administrator error
A new day - a new problem:
Having a problem with permissions in Windows 8. I keep getting a blocking error message when I try to copy files onto this W8 machine. For example: I downloaded the free Macrium/Reflect install program on my XP machine, and saved it as well as the shortcut to the web site from which I downloaded it in my wide-open data folder on that machine. Then I tried to copy both from that machine to the LAN-connected W8 machine. I get the error message (for both copies): File Access Denied You need permission to perform this action You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file SKIP TRY AGAIN I have seen the same error repeatedly for other file moves onto the W8 machine, and so I was not surprised. But I cannot figure out what to change to eliminate the error. I have changed W8 User Account Control to accept everything, but that did no good. Interestingly, I tried the same copying to another machine on my LAN, this time another XP machine. The files transferred flawlessly. Then I found I could copy those files from that XP machine to the W8 machine too - this time without encountering the cited error message. I have tried some of the Google-provided suggestions, but so far no success there either. So, does this make sense? I do not get this error for many other similar folder/file copies, so the blocking seems not consistent. I should add that permissions for the target folder are 'everyone'. Thanks The Apeman |

Thanks The Apeman Have you set up sharing? I often copy to a shared folder, usually Public something, and then move it when I'm on the other machine. -- Gene E. Bloch (Stumbling Bloch) |
