Default Will W10 be an upgrade or a wipe and reinstall?

Hi All,

Hmmmm with M$ threatening to give away SOF (Son-of-Frankenstein, W10)
to previous W7 and Frankenstein 8.1 (w8.1) owners, it occurred to me
that it may be a good idea to find out if

w7 --- w10 upgrade or wipe?
W8.1 --- W10 upgrade or wipe?

Most W8 machines I come across (including mine) are a mess, so
a wipe would probably be the better part of wisdom, but
folks needs do vary.

Many thanks,
-T

By the way, the free upgrade is a sweet idea and very unlike M$.
Be sweet if they let you upgrade the preview release too.

You're going to be a handful once you get out of, or into, your teens.

You're not going to propose that to a
customer are you ?

I would think customers would come to you
with a W10 OEM machine they just got, and
they want to discuss "options" for the thing.

To sell the above upgrade path, W10 has to
give you something. What would that something be ?

I would flash up this photo, to show your
prospective customer, how happy they'll be.
It'll be a "life style" based sales pitch.

That is one kick-ass keyboard. Me wants.
It's just a little low on key count.

Hi Paul,

Almost, if not all, my customers with Frankenstein (w8)
have said they are waiting for the Upgrade to
Son-of-Frankenstein (w10). So, I want to be ready for what
that will involve. Although, most may just want a
wipe and reinstall.

Hi All,

Found a nice article on this:

Windows 10: Can I Upgrade or do I need a Clean Install?
https://www.infopackets.com/news/951...-clean-install

"Windows 7 and 8.1 Supported Upgrades for Windows 10:

Gabe Aul of Microsoft has stated in a public twitter
announcement that only Windows 7 and 8.1 are supported
upgrade paths Windows 10. The phrase 'upgrade path' here
is the same as an 'in-place upgrade' -- meaning that
you can install Windows 10 over top of the existing
Windows installation and not have to reinstall your
programs.

The article also has a nice discussion of other upgrade things
as well. It is well worth reading.
