Default Anniversary update

FYI. I've been reading about all the AU issues over the last month,
but neither of my fairly new PCs received it until last evening. Both
were updated and are working well. My webcam works and both PCs have
the OS installed on SSDs. It looks like they fixed the known issues
and, more importantly, they held off the upgrade until those issues
were actually fixed.

Todays report.

System updated from 14393.105 to 14393.187

Logitech 9000 Pro software no longer crashes with a
memory error on the screen. No picture renders in
the Logitech control panel (the camera LED ring is
illuminated, implying stream capture has started).
Attempts to change the resolution setting, result in
"main.exe must close" error. But at least it doesn't
put up a memory access error.

One reason for using the Logitech interface, is the
camera is on its best behavior when using that panel.

*******

Camera continues to work, using VLC play option (DirectShow).
Autofocus is behaving a bit squirrelly. Seems to work a
bit better at 640x480.

I guess you could say "it's working, kinda", but
not enough for me to be interested in actually
using it. It's a nice camera, "when the wind
is blowing in the right direction". Yet another
reason these cameras should be totally autonomous,
so software cannot foul them up. The fact the control
loop is implemented in software, sucks.

As an example of a device that is autonomous, my
point and shoot camera does all the right things,
all by itself. Cost $150 and has a DIGIC 5 processor
inside it, capable of adjusting focus, exposure,
white balance, all on its own, while also drawing
a rectangle on the screen showing what it thinks
I want to photograph. The Logitech webcam was
$100 (only $50 less than the point and shoot camera),
and by comparison, it's in the dark ages. Now, if
the point and shoot camera could only be used
as a webcam...

The only issue I've had is the failure of VirtualBox (host) to open
after the update. There is a good dscussion of this in the VB
forums. Updating VB and killing all the HyperV stuff in windows
seems to be the cure.

Traditionally, people only report problems; They don't report any
successes nor do they report how secure and resilient Windows 10
Anniversary edition is. No wonder you've been reading about issues and
nothing else. Perhaps it is time to stop reading from idiots, nutters
and stupid people and instead try it yourself first.

You get all sorts here so be selective of what you read before taking
any actions on your active machine. even Prince George is selective when
it comes to shaking hands with foreign dignitaries; He refused to shake
hands with Justin Trudeau, PM of Canada.
