that dang update
If you are referring to 811493, it is now a Recommended update, not
Critical. No one here debated the problem exists. The root cause is unknown. The fact that many do not have an issue is proof that it can be successfully installed. The one thing that seems clear is that the speed issue is associated with AV applications. The actual cause of the issue is likely a combination of installed applications, settings etc. The exact relationship is unclear which is why some computers have it and other apparently similar systems do not. The best choice if a computer has the issue is to uninstall the update from Add/Remove Programs, NOT System Restore. -- Jupiter Jones An easier way to read newsgroup messages: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...oups/setup.asp Please respond to newsgroup only for everyone's benefit. that dang update
I've got speed problems after installing Q811493 and it's
not just related with AV applications. My Winamp3 has slowed down as an example. I have the problem on 2 P4 machines with over a gig of ram. This whole thing should not have happened. I have tried shutting off my AV, then uninstalling and reinstalling Q811493. What a joke that suggestion was. I'm not running anything heavy duty but the machines slow down starting anything up (10-15 seconds). These machines used to be lightning fast before the installation of said update. I'm yanking this sucker off my machines again! Hello Microsoft can you hear me?! -----Original Message----- If you are referring to 811493, it is now a Recommended update, not Critical. Chuck;
I did not mean to suggest the problem meant only a slowdown with AV applications. The slowdown seems to affect the whole system. The cause appears to be some relationship with the patch and AV applications. -- Jupiter Jones Check the following link for some great problem solving newsgroups. http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx Please respond to newsgroup only.
