Default Uninstalling Norton anti-virus from XP home wipes IP address aparantly !!

Tried uninstalling using norton's uninstall and XP's
add/remove program
s to no avail. The program is removed sucessfully but it
wipes the
ip address, the internet won't work as it can't see the
modem,
using ipconfig I get 0.0.0.0 for the IP address?

I then have to restore to a point before the uninstall
to use the internet again ??

Any help greatly appreciated,
Eoin
