Default Scanning Options

I have an HP Officejet 5510v that came with a disk that has HP
Director on it. If I wanted to scan something, I started the HP
Director and could, among other things, scan a document to PDF or to
an editable text document (OCR).

The lastest information I can find is that HP Director doesn't work
under Windows Vista. The instructions at the HP site (hp.com) say to
use Windows Fax and Scanning, but then goes on to say that "this
feature works only with Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista
Business, and Windows Vista Enterprise." I have Vista Basic.

Windows Photo Gallery *will* work, apparently, but the only options
for scanning documents there are image formats, i.e., TIF, BMP, JPG or
PNG.

Does anyone know how/if I can get HP Director to work? Or is there an
alternative that will work with Vista Basic that does what I could do
before I bought a new computer? Am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks --

I think the free graphics app 'IRFanView' will do what you want.

IrfanView - one of the most popular viewers worldwide:

Thanks, Mark -- I'll try that.
