There is apparently an issue with the 'installed' .NET Frameworks that is preventing the updates from being installed. Please see - Updated: what to do if other .NET Framework setup troubleshooting steps do not help http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/arc...7/8108332.aspx To avoid interference from 3rd party software ( antivirus/security suite, etc. ), suggest you configure XP to Clean boot first, then go through the steps starting with attempting a Repair of the troublesome ..NET Frameworks, .NET 2.0 first and .NET 3.5 second. How to configure Windows XP to start in a clean boot state http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353 NOTE: If a 3rd party firewall was previously being used please open Windows Firewall in Control Panel to confirm that it is now On once you've booted to the Clean state. ALL 3rd party firewalls are Disabled in a Clean boot. If the attempted Repair of the .NET Frameworks fails, then proceed with the rest of Aaron's recommendations.
