Please help!!! Can't connect to internet!!!

Bad bad bad bad bad bad bad. In the future, although trimming is generally good, don't trim out the *entire* context. I have reconstructed this portion of the thread for the benefit of others who may not have been following it. pinacoladaxb wrote: I was in the middle of a very important project requiring a PC. All of a sudden, I find that I can't connect to the internet. This is really bad. I need this fixed immediately. My windows xp is not wireless, so I checked the cables. The computer is connected to the router, and the router obviously works because I can access the computer from this mac. I looked at "Network Connections" and it looks like it's connected. One of the connections says: Local Area Connection Connected, Firewalled SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Ad I even connected the computer directly to the modem. I still had no luck. Any ideas? Again, this is urgent. Please help me. Now, when the computer boots up, it says "Invalid system disk Replace disk, and then press any key" What should I do? If my computer it broken, I don't care as long as my files can be recovered. I'm not going to sue you. ..now if my files are gone, that's a whole other situation........... and again: This is not good. I can't open any files. When I try to open something, I get a message saying "Not enough quota is available to process this command." Furthermore, when I open My Computer, the drives do not have titles. Leythos's warning unfortunately showed up too late. The "tool" you downloaded and installed seems to have caused even more damage. In the future, be wary of downloading and installing files from untrusted sources. If you're not sure, just wait. If the consensus in this group is to go ahead, you're probably safe. Otherwise, you're taking chances. For the time being, try uninstalling the "tool" in Safe Mode. And try using System Restore. But I'm afraid you might wind up needing to aggressively scan your PC for malware now. |

I'm doing a virus scan now.
I don't know why I was getting that quota error, but it's gone now. I'm not part of a business network. I am the administrator of the computer. I admit I was pretty stupid to use that software. I was just desperate. The good news is that everything seems to be working perfectly normal at the moment, aside from the one error message I get on startup. Do you think I should get my computer checked out? How soon? I sort of need it really badly for the next couple months. |

Sorry to burst your bubble and that of the stalker Leythos, did you read the
part of my sig that says to ignore him? He has you believing my winsock tool damaged your computer when all it is the standard "Microsoft" netsh command, nothing more nothing less, netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt. that's it. I don't know why you got those error but it was not from running the netsh command. What did you do to get your internet back? if nothing then how do you know it was not the winsock tool that fixed it. BTW the netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt does a little more then the netsh winsock reset does which is what you ran using the other utility. -- Ignore posts made by the person called Leythos, he is a stalker who's been obsessed with me for years ever since I spurned his advances towards me. Chris, if you read the post, I clearly stated that his description indicates there were OTHER problems with his computer, my comment about your download page was that we don't know what an UNETHICAL person like you might add to a file from such an unethical website as yours. Do you really want to trust someone that was banned from posting directly to Microsoft Usenet servers, someone that has posted links to pornographic materials on HIS WEBSITE, who's website is in the MVP HOST Block list? -- Leythos - (remove 999 to email me) Public Service Warning: Learn about PCButts before you trust: http://forums.speedguide.net/archive.../t-223485.html http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=pcbutts1+thief |

After looking at what Leythos showed me, it's becoming hard to trust you. Leythos hasn't done anything wrong. Want proof that your program messed up my computer? Before I ran your program, the only thing wrong with my computer was it couldn't connect to the internet. After I ran your program, I get an "Invalid System Disk" error during the booting process and I get a message saying it can't find a file. |

Please help!!! Can't connect to internet!!!
Well if you did nothing then it sounds to me like Winsock corruption. Your
systems Winsock can be hijacked, enabling spyware to record everything you do online or send information you think is going to one Web site to another altogether. Any corruption in the Winsock 2 LSP will disable your internet access. Possibly you have inadvertently installed some spyware that adds an LSP of its own. Winsock 2 adheres to the Windows Open Service Architecture. In effect, the WOSA architecture allows third-party service providers to be plugged in without the need for application developers to rewrite their code and without the need to replace the Winsock 2 DLL ws2_ 32.dll. The DLL implementing an LSP is either loaded by another LSP or directly by ws2_32.dll, depending upon its position in the protocol chain. If an LSP is not at the top of the protocol chain, the LSP immediately above it in the chain loads it; otherwise, it is loaded by ws2_ 32.dll. The fix of mine you ran wipes out all of the 3rd party LSP's so they have to be reloaded by the ws2_ 32.dll or the program itself. Legitimate anti-spyware applications like Super AntiSpyware and others with real-time protection will reload their LPS on reboot. Spyware that accesses the LSP's when the LSP is removed will cause the problem you had for example the old new.net Trojan. The reason your system is rebooted after running the fix is to complete the repair by rebuilding files. It was bad malware that caused that issue and the Winsock repair that fixed it. -- Ignore posts made by the person called Leythos, he is a stalker who's been obsessed with me for years ever since I spurned his advances towards me. I don't use the internet on my windows computer for anything except testing games I develop.
I'm going to propose a reason for this problem, but don't jump on it just to get yourself cleared. Before I ran your software and after the internet stopped working, I deleted one of the connections that was not in use. I thought maybe my computer was trying to connect to it even though it could not. |
