I receive this prompt that there is a patchedSFC_os.dll from my McAfee
program. I tried to delete the file, but can not remove it. I searched the windows sites, but have not been able to find out how to delete that file. |

If its a mcafee file, then its probably in use,go to run, type:services.msc
Scroll to mcafee services, double click, select "disable",probably more than one service running... "MPW" wrote: I receive this prompt that there is a patchedSFC_os.dll from my McAfee program. I searched the windows sites, but have not been able to find out how to delete that file. I suspect this file, it could be an infection. I never heard of it unless you enlighten us more about, it seem to em fishy file! If you mean SFC-os.dll it can be either a legitimate file ( windows file) or a viral infection. You didn't tell us where the prompt coming from, is it Mcafee or windows prompt in the like of Event viewer or security manager..etc. Try to scan for malware and viruses and let us know your findings: http://www.superantispyware.com/supe...freevspro.html Malwarebytes© Corporation - Anti-Malware http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam/program/mbam-setup.exe BlackLight http://www.f-secure.com/en_EMEA/secu...es/blacklight/ BlackLight ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/fsbl.exe Easy Clean http://www.f-secure.com/en_EMEA/secu...er/easy-clean/ Run a scan from here on-line: http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/d...d=ie&venid=sym http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx Download Avast Cleaner (offline scanner) from he http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html Comodo BOClean : Anti-Malware Version 4.27 http://www.comodo.com/boclean/boclean.html HTH nass --- http://www.nasstec.co.uk .. |

Sounds like you were hacked/infested/something 'bad'. sfc_os.dll is a process belonging to the Windows program . sfc.dll is a file that contains functions used to monitor system files for validity. It belongs to the Microsoft Windows environment. Having a "PatchedSFC_OS.dll" sounds really bad. I'd scan with MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware. No guarantees that will clean it. I'd probably do a repair (in-place upgrade) installation with a Windows XP w/SP3 integrated CD to replace necessary system files with known good ones. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |
