Default Firewall in SP2

Is there a registry hack or something I could use to permanently shut off
the firewall in Windows XP Professional (SP2)? My company uses it for our
kiosk system, but for some reason the firewall will turn itself back on
eventually no matter how many times I turn it off. It is a closed network
system so it won't hurt it to be off.

The fact that it keeps turning itself back on is ending up being a waste of
time and money for us so if anyone can help get it shut off for good any
help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Derek

So, your network is not connected to the internet? If that is the case, you
don't need a firewall. But having one won't make much difference.
If your network is connected to the internet, the fine folks over in
www.windowsxp.network_web advised me to use both.

Actually, if the firewall turns on the server can no longer see the
computer. The computer will still work on it's end, but will look like it's
down on my end. If it keeps turning on it becomes a problem. I was just
hoping there was some sort of registry hack to permanently shut the firewall
off.

I shut off the Windows firewall in the Security Center and it
stays that way (I use the McAfee firewall). Of course, I am not
using a network but a cable connection to the 'Net.

Go to Administrative Tools - Services - and stop the firewall service. Also
change it so that startup is Manual rather than Automatic. Hope this helps.
