Windows 7 and printer drivers
I have been trying to install manufacturer supplied printer drivers on a
windows 7 pro 64 bit computer. However windows 7 always installs a generic driver which is not suitable. It does this so quickly that I do not have time to click on the system tray notification, where it is possible to interupt the automatic driver install (we are using SSD drives which makes the process faster than a mechanical hard drive) Is there some way to turn off the automatic driver install in Windows 7. This is the only real feature in windows 7 that I do not like, and it is repeated in winsows 10 I believe. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maurice Helwig ~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

After the unwanted driver is installed, open Printer settings, right-click on the printer and select Properties, then select the Advanced tab and click on New Driver and install the new driver. You didn't state who the printer manufacturer was but typically some drivers come with a self install feature that after you open the printer driver file it will look for a suitable printer (assuming it's connected) and offer to install the driver. If you have already done that and the driver installed to the system but is not the one being used, do as a I said above but instead of clicking on New Driver button, look for the printer in the drop down "Driver" menu. Use the down arrow button to show installed drivers. If none of the above works, tells us the make and model of printer and what driver you have downloaded and we'll see what we can do to help. -- Bob S. |

I rebooted the computer, switched off the Kyocera and was called away to do something else. Will work on it on Thursday. The problem is that every time I reboot the computer the OS installs its own drivers which then have to be removed before installing the Kyocera supplied drivers. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maurice Helwig ~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

No because the install program on the disk looks for the printer on USB and the network before it steps on to the next selection. The printer must be on for the detection to take place. I think the driver disk is multi model and multi language, so it searches and identifies the model etc and then installs the correct driver -- well it is supposed to ???? -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maurice Helwig ~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
