Data Ececution Protection
I never received this error message, until I went to IE 8. The only site it
affects is the site for my college. I haven't changed anything except that web browser. I went through the steps, twice to fix this, but it still won't let me get to the part of the site I need. How do I fix this, or go back to IE 7, or just go with Firefox? |

Try running IE in Tools Compatability View for the college site. If the system still throws a DEP error, open the System applet in Control Panel, click the Advanced tab. Click the Settings button under Performance. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab. Put a mark next to " Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select " Now click the Add button. Navigate to the Internet Explorer subfolder by click the drop down arrow next to My Documents, click on the drive where IE is installed to, then open the Program Files folder and then the IE subfolder. Click on iexplore.exe, then click the Open button. Click OK to the warning message. IE will now be listed with a check mark next to it. Click Apply, then OK. **** REMEMBER**** to UNcheck the box next to IE when your done with the college site as disabling DEP for it is *** NOT good as to the Security of the system. *** MowGreen =============== *-343-* FDNY Never Forgotten =============== |

DEP error means you installed an add-on that is not compatible with IE8. See what happens when you run IE8 in its no add-ons mode. If the problem goes away, disable all add-ons and then by reenabling them one at a time and retesting. You can disable DEP protection in IE8. The option was available in IE7 but was disabled by default. In IE8, it is enabled by default. Disabling this option merely means you are letting a crap code add-on to execute. Internet Options - Advanced tab - Security section "Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks" (default = disabled in IE7, enabled in IE8) Read: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...rotection.aspx |
