I surely don't drink coffee to quench my thirst, but I definitely do
drink coffee. You *could* widen your horizons in thinking about people's
motivations.

Well it's certainly a **** stimulant. Weed and booze and chocolate are far better at that.

Really? How about for troubleshooting/repair/etc.?

Like someone else said, a USB thumb drive is way more convenient and
durable.

The laptop that I'm typing on is coming up on 3 years old and I don't think
I have ever used the optical drive. I've pressed the button to pop open the
tray a few times, just out of boredom during a long meeting, but that
shouldn't count as using the drive.

My main desktop system and my file server both don't have internal optical
drives installed. I needed those bays for hard drives. I have an adapter
cable that should allow me to use an internal type of optical drive
externally via USB, but I've never had to use it.

On a related note, each of my vehicles has a CD player, but I can't remember
the last time I've played a CD in either of them. Both vehicles can play
music directly from a USB thumb drive, which again, is way more convenient
and durable.

OK. Suppose you have 25 thumb drives. How do you organize them? Store
them? I find that CD/DVDs in a storage case are much easier to deal with
than a Tupperware container of thumb drives.

My tiny, little Italian grandmother used to refer to coffee as nature's
laxative. One cup at 0430 and by 0435, whoosh, my plumbing is unclogged and my
house plumbing is worse for the wear! :-)

As for Starbucks coffee tasting like battery acid (I lost track of who
posted that), I totally disagree[1]. But I also don't like it :-)

That was me.

I go to Starbucks because that's where I meet regularly with a few
friends to socialize; the coffee is the price I pay for that. BTW, I
don't find it expensive, but then I drink plain coffee, not coffee with
spangles & truffles.

Probably a good place to find new clients, you know for sure they don't pay
attention to prices.......

You entrepreneurs - all you think about is clients...

I'm kidding, of course, but (a) I'm retired, but especially (b) I
totally lack the entrepreneurial spirit - or really, ability...

[1] In truth, I've never tasted battery acid, so how can I be sure? But
I still don't like Starbucks coffee...

Difficult to do much work on cars without ever getting a taste of battery acid.
Obviously I am from the old school and used to do all my own auto maintenance
and repairs.

I've never tasted battery acid, but I've taken a shower in hot
antifreeze. Will that do?

Damn - I just realized I've never *tasted* antifreeze.

I also suspect Starbucks coffee would make excellent paint stripper.

I use black coffee to clean my glasses (eyeglasses). Dip a napkin, wipe
carefully, et voila! - clean and scratched glasses.

Any brand works. Oh - I drink my java black no sugar, which is what
makes that method convenient for me.

It wasn't me who posted it, but I don't like it either.

In fact, as far as I'm concerned, it's about the worst coffee
available. It's nothing like battery acid (although I've never tasted
battery acid either), but it's over-roasted--burnt.

To me the worst thing about it is that it has become so popular that
many others try to copy its taste. That makes it difficult to get a
good cup of coffee anywhere is the USA (except in my house g).

Another popular coffee shop around here is Peet's. I always found their
brewed coffee to be similarly too strong, and I drank Peet's before
Starbucks existed here (Silicon Valley).

BTW, at home I drink Peet's, but of course we brew it to our preference.
When we brew it at home, Starbucks is also not so bad, but we still
prefer the other.

Life is too drab, I like the extra color.

I haven't actually scratched my specs (or their antireflection coating)
doing that, but in the context, that warning seemed appropriate.

To me the problem with Starbucks is not in its brewing, it's in its
roasting. Overroasting and overbrewing are two different things with
two different tastes. I suppose if you underbrew Starbucks, it
wouldn't taste quite as bad, but I still wouldn't like it; it will
still taste burnt to me.

And being burnt isn't exactly the same as overroasted. French coffee
is roasted more than American coffee, and Italian more than either.
But neither is burnt and I like both.

I normally drink coffee black with no sugar, but if I have to drink
Starbucks, or one of its copies, I add cream.

Just curious, have you seen the *$ abbreviation for Starbucks?

That's no help to me - I haven't opened a bottle (or can) of coke in
decades.

I do know how to open a radiator, but only when I'm attentive. :-)

It also would have helped if I'd let it cool off, but I was trying to
