Default Windows Live Messenger/No sign-in

I have XP Pro SP3 and I recently downloaded the latest version of Windows
live messenger. When I go to sign-in, all I get is the little dancing icons
and a quick flash that doesn't even tell me there's been an error. I have
tried uninstalling and reinstalling and even doing the Regedit suggested in
another forum. It still does the same thing. Does having Windows Blinds have
anything to do with it? It's the only thing that's not standard on my system,
as well as the only program I have had a problem with so far.
