Default Cannot Change Refresh Rate above 60.

Just upgraded windows to XP from 98,
Have an up to date monitor and Graphics card (Phillips 109P4, ATI 9800XT
256).
But cannot get the refresh rate to change from the default.

The settings in the display panel can be changed to the correct values, and
the monitor blanks out, like its changing refresh rate, but the refresh rate
remains the same. Ive upgraded to the SR1a patch but this has made no
difference. I've also tried several of the older ATI drivers, and
unregistered Omega Catalyst drivers, including the driver which i was using
with the '98 setup, which worked fine. But getting the same result.

At anything above 1024, this flicker is intolerable for any length of time.

Have also tried to force the refresh rate higher using the option in DXDiag.
Also behaves as if it's working, but same result.

This is the first problem in a list ive got to sort out. From what I can
see, upgrading to XP is by no means a trivial matter.

Anyone any advice.

Many thanks.

You need to update your monitor file so it is properly
identified. XP won't let you set above 60 Hz because it
can't identify the monitor specs.

Thanks Jim,
I already re-installed the monitor drivers, and display properties say,

Phillips Brillaince 109P4 (109P4), on Radeon Catalyst..............etc,
So it is seeing the monitor, thats why the various refresh rates are
available,
but changing them does nothing.

Are you running you rmonitor thru an KVM switchbox? Or have it on a VGA
extention cable?

These sometimes block out the signal for video/monitor negotiations.
