Default Send To Mail Recipient

OK Peter - I'll top post this time to maintain the flow!

OS is Windows 7 64 bit

I have just tried changing to Opera as you suggest. I unchecked the Windows
Live Mail "allow access" box. When I tried the right click send to mail
recipient, I just got a dialogue box saying that there is now email client
associated. (I have never used Opera for email). Then, when I changed back,
I unchecked the Opera "allow access" box and selected Windows Live Mail. Now
I'm back to how I was before with nothing happening - but when I go back in,
the check boxes for both Windows Live Mail and Opera are both checked, and
the selection has moved back to "use my current email program".

Thanks for your reply.

Peter

If you set the email defaults to a different email client (e.g. Opera),
does the Right-click-Send to-Mail recipient, and IE's File-Send- Page
by E-mail.../Link by E-mail... functions work for that email client?

By the way, you can ignore Jack's suggestion to bottom post... When
replying to someone who is top-posting, it makes sense to continue
top-posting, just as it makes sense to continue bottom-posting when
replying to someone who is bottom-posting. Thus, to break the flow
mid-thread, is as unhelpful as Jack's posts.

It would help if you mentioned your Operating System though. Obviously it
is not WinXP...

Hello everyone,

Two functions have suddenly stopped working. They are the "Right Click"
"Send To" "Mail Recipient" function and the ""Send Link By Email"
function in Internet Explorer 9 [correction-8]

When trying to use either of them, either noting happens at all, or the
Windows Live Mail 2011 splash opens for a second or two and then
disappears.

I have looked around and tried all the various ways of making sure
Windows Live Mail is the default mail client etc. but I think that must
be ok because the "Send Link" function in Firefox works properly,
opening a Windows Live Mail window.

Any ideas?

Peter

Just to let you all know this is now fixed.

In the end I went into Control Panel Uninstall A Program and clicked on
Windows Live Essentials 2011. There, you are given an option to "Repair all
Windows Live Programs". Once I had done that, the "Right Click Send To Mail
Recipient" function worked, but "Send Link By Email" and "Send Page By
Email" in IE8 were both greyed out. I then went in to "Set Program Access &
Defaults" and selected "Windows Live Mail", and all worked ok.

So - to everyone who made suggestions - thank you very much!

I just realised that Opera Mail does not have MAPI support, so that is why it did not work for Opera. Thunderbird has MAPI support, for what it's worth...

I was hoping to discover whether it was a problem with WLMail or with Windows' MAPIMail.

It seems it was a problem with WLMail...

Thanks for the feedback Peter.

Peter..
Thanks for all the details yielding a solution.

If I may ask a few questions...

1. What AV program and if present Anti-Malware programs run resident ?
2. On this system...was WLM 2009 the previous email program, nothing, or
something else(e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird, etc)

Hello Winston,

To answer your questions:

AV software running resident is Zone Alarm Extreme Security. Windows
Defender is running resident too (I have read conflicting opinions as to
whether or not I should allow both to run but they seem to get along just
fine and I don't have any problems).

WLM 2009 was the previous email program. However, it is a while now since I
updated this and it had been working just fine. I can't remember doing
anything different when the problem started. I know that I had used it a
couple of days beforehand with no problems.

Hope this is helpful to you (and others).

Peter

Hi Peter,

If you're not afraid of the registry, I suggest you check your registry key
for the mailto. It
should be as shown in that screenshot :

Hope this might be of some help.

Hello Jaya,

Thanks for that.

As I said, problem is fixed, but I looked at that and compared it to mine,
and it is exactly the same (except for the French window title!)

Thanks again.

You can use the Win 95 Power Toy Send To on XP,Vista Win 7 and W2K8.

Download the Power Toy Set and only install the Send To toy

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc751394.aspx

And the download
http://wareseeker.com/Home-Shell-Des...t-1.0.zip/5251

There is no download button on that MS page to get this "toy." How is it
downloaded? As for Wareseeker.com. Nothing downloaded.... the link was
broken to the mirror 1 site. I got an error.
